Two calls in one day for Shoreham RNLI

LIFEBOATMEN had to deal with two calls in one day when a yacht and a jet skier got into trouble.

The Shoreham RNLI all weather lifeboat was launched at 1.55pm on Saturday to the yacht, eight miles south of Littlehampton.

The 13m yacht, with two people on board, had a fishing line wrapped around her propeller.

The inflatable Y boat was launched from the lifeboat and the crew pulled up the line, then cut it away from the propeller.

The yacht began drifting but a tow was set up and the lifeboat crew began the two-and-a-half hour journey back to Shoreham Harbour.

The vessel, which had been travelling from Chichester to Eastbourne, was taken through the locks, where she was left on a berth.

The Shoreham RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched at 6.40pm on Saturday to a jet skier who had come off his jet ski close to the eastern arm of Shoreham Harbour.

The crew found the jet ski but could not trace the man, until two people on the beach pointed towards some rocks.

The jet skier was found on the rocks with another man, who had swum out to rescue him. He was taken back to Sussex Marine Water Sports, off Kingston Beach, with his jet ski by the lifeboat and the swimmer swam back to shore.
