Daphne Belt, 75, of Toddington Lane, took the gold medal at the ITU World Triathlon Age Group Championships – one of only three GB athletes to take the top spot at the Olympic-distance event.

Daphne had to complete a gruelling 1,500m swim, followed by a 40k cycle ride and a 10k run.

She said: “In the run my asthma played up a little and I can only think this is due to Edmonton being 2,192 feet above sea level.”
