Burgess Hill potholes in photos: ‘at least 15 sizable problem holes’ spotted in Crescent Way

Several large potholes in Crescent Way, Burgess Hill, are causing concern among residents.

Mid Sussex Times photographer Steve Robards took these pictures on Saturday, January 7.

He said: “There are at least 15 sizable problem holes in Crescent Way, Burgess Hill, which is only about 200 metres long.”

Jay, from The Sunshine Café, said the back entrance to his business is on the road and said there is a ‘massive pothole’ right next to it. There are at least five to seven large holes nearby too, he said.

“It makes it difficult for everyone,” said Jay, adding that the holes mean delivery drivers cannot pull in properly, causing a problem for others on the road. He also said the holes make the road dangerous because drivers who try to avoid them can hit the curb.

“That road has to be stripped off completely and redone,” said Jay, adding that he pays a lot in business rates and would like the roads near him kept in good condition.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “Repair jobs had already been scheduled for the five most significantly-sized potholes, which meet our repair criteria, when the Middy’s pictures were taken.

“This followed an ad-hoc inspection by a Highways officer on Friday (6 January). The repairs will be done within 28 days, or sooner if possible, dependent on other priorities. The potholes which did not meet the repair criteria will be monitored for likely future repair when and if they further deteriorate.

“To report a pothole, residents are asked to please go to the County Council’s website, select ‘roads and travel’ and ‘report a pothole online’ – where they can read more information on what pothole sizes we prioritise – then click on report a pothole online.
