Man in hospital after collision with train at Chichester station

The 18-year-old had reportedly climbed over the level crossing barriers prior to the incident at around 10pm on Stockbridge Road.

Power to the train line was cut off and paramedics attended to the man on the platform, a witness reported.

Nearby resident Trevor Tupper said attempts were made to clear the station car park to allow the helicopter to land, but not all the vehicles could be moved.

“They had a helicopter ready to take him away,” he said. “There was a doctor there and they were working on him at the side of the platform.”

He added that the train was left in position across the crossing for around an hour and the passengers on board were taken to their destination by coach.

The man’s injuries were not considered to be serious of life changing, a spokesperson for British Transport Police confirmed.

His family have been informed and the incident is not being treated as suspicious, the spokesperson added.
