Thieves make off with goods worth £8,000

OFFICERS are appealing for witnesses after thieves escaped with an £8,000 haul of property from motor homes in Merston in an overnight raid.

The householders living on the site of Wyevale Garden Centre on the A259, lost belongings including awnings, TVs, two electric bicycles and satellite navigation equipment in the theft between 7pm on Monday, September 1, and 8am the following morning.

Many vehicles were also damaged in the incident.

District Performance Sergeant Anna Gent has appealed for witnesses.

"Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed unusual activity outside the Wyevale Garden Centre on the A259 at Merston," she said.

"It is believed a fairly large van would have been used to remove the property and that the thieves would have been at the site for some time, or there may have been a number of people involved."

Scenes-of-crime officers have attended and CCTV is being viewed.
