Teachers set to retire after 74 years’ service
TWO teachers who have a combined experience in the classroom of 74 years and have seen ‘many changes’ to their profession in their time teaching are retiring today.
Malcolm Chilton, 60, and Kim Smithers-Brinded, 56, of Durrington Middle School, in Salvington Road, Worthing, had a joint leaving party at the Village House Hotel in Findon on Wednesday evening.
Mr Chilton said: “We have seen the national curriculum arrive and be revised, we have seen secretaries of state come and go. It’s been quite challenging at times keeping pace and trying to keep the principle that the children come first. It doesn’t matter what system you’ve got in place, the thing is we are here for the kids.”
