Tanbridge student’s engineering experience

Anisha Wakefield, 12, is determined to become an engineer in the future, so the Horsham school and Crawley company combined to give her a taste of the industry last Wednesday (July 17).

Anisha said: “Engineering amazes me because our world just wouldn’t be the same without technology.

“I loved seeing all the different departments and getting to go inside the Anachoic chamber.

“I definitely can’t wait to become an engineer when I’m older!”

On the day, Anisha had a schedule full of presentations, tours, and the opportunity to work in Thales’ manufacturing department.

She also interviewed Thales employee Sam Turner about what it takes to become an engineer.

Kenneth McCartney, head of industrial operations at Thales, said: “Thales has always enjoyed welcoming talented students into our company, but it was particularly refreshing to see such a young female student wanting to see Thales in action.

“Anisha impressed us all with her natural skill for engineering and I am sure she will make an excellent engineer once she is older.”

Tanbridge House’s Ambassadors Programme is an innovative project run in partnership with Billingshurst marketing agency PMW Communications, giving young students a chance to try a job for a day.
