The suspected illegal immigrants were arrested by police after a member of the public spotted a ‘group of men’ jumping out of a foreign-registered lorry on the A27 at Crossbush at 8.51am today (March 5).

According to Sussex Police, the lorry driver seemed to be unaware that anything had happened and drove off.

Police officers immediately carried out a search of the area and found five men from Eritrea, in Africa.

They were arrested and are being questioned about their entry into the country by the immigration services.

Last month, five men and a woman were arrested by police after being found in an Italian lorry parked on the A27 near Tangmere.

They were also from Eritrea and have since been bailed while enquiries continue.
