Support to be offered during Parkinson’s Awareness Week

The Worthing and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK is inviting people to visit information stands at venues in the area to find out more about what life with Parkinson’s is like from people living with the condition.

The disease is a complex neurological condition which gets worse over time.

Parkinson’s Awareness Week, which runs from Monday through to Sunday, aims to change attitudes by highlighting the negative reactions that people with Parkinson’s can face when out in public.

Margaret Stewart, chairman of the Worthing and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK, said: “We want this to be an opportunity for people to understand Parkinson’s and the impact it can have on normal life.

“People with Parkinson’s often tell us they come up against public misunderstanding, from being laughed at or even mistaken for being drunk because of their symptoms – the attitudes that people with Parkinson’s encounter can be almost as distressing as the condition itself.”

The information stands will be at the Guildbourne Centre on Saturday from 9am to 1pm, Southlands Hospital in Shoreham on Monday from 9am to 3pm, Worthing Morrisons from 9am until 4.30am on Friday and Wick Morrisons on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 from 9am until 1.30pm.

Funds raised from the event will help people living with Parkinson’s locally.
