Successful and fun summer fete in Catsfield

Thanks to the glorious sunshine and donations by many local businesses, sponsors and supporters, a record £3,100 was raised.

Catsfield School is currently the only primary school in East Sussex, since January 2012, to have been accredited with ‘Outstanding’, by Ofsted.

Simon Richardson, Chairman of the PTA, told how “delighted” he was to see so many current and past pupils at the event, along with parents, including the new September intake.

Thanks to the raffle prize donations the Grand Draw smashed records, and was once again match-funded by Barclays Bank to £1,000.

Despite only having 109 pupils, Simon went on to say how lucky they were to be able to engage so closely with the local community and villagers as a whole, who contribute not only time and equipment, but dig deep in their pockets whenever asked.

It wasn’t only the weather that was sizzling, the barbecue burger flippers were kept busy, along with many of the village favourites such as the coconut shy, face-painting, splat-the-rat, cake stall, beat the goalie, guess the number of balloons in a car, a mini steam engine ride, ice cream stall, pony rides & bouncy castle.

New this year was Ye Ol’ Village Stocks, with both Sally Clark (Headteacher) and Jonathan Elms (Deputy Head) each taking a bit of a pounding, as eager pupils queued up to douse them with wet sponges.

The school’s CMA Karate Club entertained the crowds with a confident display of martial arts, enhanced by a visit from 18 year old Chanice Sumner the reigning ISKA Open British & IKF English Open Champion.

Two of the school’s chosen charities came along too, the Spinal Injuries Association to help out on the tombola and FSN Dragonflies who encouraged children and adults alike to decorate cupcakes.
