Students step back in time

A TUDOR day was held at Grovelands Community School in Hailsham.

Boys and girls dressed up in special costumes and enjoyed a range of activities.

Year Four teacher Sonia Larkin said: 'They loved it and it went very quickly on the day.

'All of the costumes were a good standard of dress.

'After the day they did portraits of themselves dressed as tudors which are now hanging up in the school.'

The pupils designed a coat of arms using the internet and did some writing with quill pens.

Although they still ate from their normal lunch boxes, the youngsters also thought up a tudor menu.

This involved them imagining foods such as pottage, swan, ducks, poultry and herbs.

In the afternoon parents were treated to a Henry VIII and his wives drama.

And the children sang a song about the king.

The pupils also got to visit Michelham Priory in the week to learn more about medieval times.
