St Mary's community summer fayre in Shoreham

The town centre churchyard was packed with entertainment and goods to browse, attracting people from near and far.

Churchwarden Julie Gates said the St Mary’s summer fayre had been a ‘wonderfully well-supported community event’, raising more than £3,000 for the church’s work and mission in Shoreham.

“We were truly blessed with glorious sunshine on Saturday afternoon for the fayre in the St Mary de Haura churchyard,” she said.

“There were many stalls on offer, including plants, tombolas, cream teas, children’s game, face painting, Pimm’s and strawberries and a mystery raffle with some wonderful prizes that had been donated by local traders and traders from further afield.

“Many people from out of area as well as local people who were visiting Shoreham for the farmers’ market in East Street stopped for a rest at the refreshment stalls and enjoyed an afternoon in the sunshine listening to the St Mary de Haura Bellringers and popular songs provided by Imaginery Friends.”

During the afternoon, there were guided tours of the church, where visitors could hear more about its 900-year history.

The church holds regular coffee mornings on farmers’ and artisans’ market days, on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, and all are welcome to pop in for refreshments.
