Society set for bumper 21st year

STEYNING Music Society is preparing for a bumper year for its 21st season.

Details of the 2014 have just been published, with brochures available at libraries.

One of the highlights is a concert by world-renowned choral group, The Sixteen, at St Andrew and St Cuthman Church in May.

It is part of Steyning Grammar School’s 400th anniversary celebrations and conductor Harry Christophers has created a special programme of music by English composers who were active in 1614.

The season kicks off on Saturday and Sunday with two jazz concerts, in partnership with Steyning Jazz Club and Steyning Grammar School.

In July, piano duo Piano 4 Hands presents Stravinsky’s own arrangement of The Rite of Spring. The duo will also be playing works by Mozart and Poulenc, and Schubert’s famous Fantasy in F minor as part of their programme.

Piano trios by Schumann and Schubert will be played by the Gould Piano Trio in September, along with a new commission by James MacMillan.

In November, the Pro-Musica String Trio present music by Haydn, Miklos Rosza, Beethoven and Dohnanyi.
