Silence through the school as students read
On Tuesday, October 8, staff and students could choose any type of book to read, as long as they read for the hour.
“These ranged from graphic novels and comics to novels.
Miss Cheryse Rahaman, literacy leader at Steyning Grammar School, said: “To have these reading events during the school day is hugely beneficial and makes a dramatic difference.

“We are also aware that if students do not read regularly, it has a negative impact on their attainment; reading even for 20 minutes a day can dramatically improve a student’s vocabulary, imgination and ability to read and write. Those that read become better writers, which can have a hugely positive impact across the student’s whole curriculum. The only way to capture imagination is to encourage young people to read.”
