Shoreham Allstars play 200th live show
Young musicians collective the Shoreham Allstars have played their 200th live event.
The amazing achievement was celebrated in true Allstars’ fashion, in front of a packed audience at the Brighton Dome Studio Theatre on Thursday.
David O’Connell, managing director, said: “This is a major milestone for the Allstars. It has been a mad journey so far as we have played in a variety of venues, including Napoleonic forts, bikers’ car boot sales, living maps, houseboats, airports, donkey derbies and national music festivals.
“Now we’ve got the 200th gig out of the way, we’ll be focusing on our summer gig programme, which includes our fourth year running our own stage at Beach Dreams Festival, a stage at Wild Life Festival and more gigs at our own live venue.”
There were performances from 15 Allstars bands, some of which were at the first gig in December 2008, a fundraiser for Beach Dreams Festival at the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham.
Since then, the Allstars collective has become a feature at Sussex events, big and small, giving young musicians aged seven to 18 years the chance to perform and entertain in equal measure.
Caitlan, 16, who performed at the first gig and has been part of the collective’s continued success, said: “When I played the first ever gig with the Allstars, I was nineyears old and wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to be and what to expect in the future.
“Seven years later, I have progressed massively and my confidence has increased to a huge extent.
“If it wasn’t for the Shoreham Allstars, I would have absolutely no idea as to what I would do in the future but I am certain I want to work in the music industry and have been following that pathway ever since my first gig.”
