Series of attempted break-ins in Bognor

Police are appealing for information following a burglary and a series of attempted break-ins in Bognor Regis.

The latest happened on Wednesday (18 January) when a man was seen trying to get into a house in Highland Avenue but was disturbed by the homeowner.

The offender - who is described as being between 20 and 30, of medium to stocky build, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall and wearing a blue wool hat - made off on a silver mountain bike with a green lock.

Very shortly after, police received a call from a house in Servite Close saying a man had broken into the property but had also been disturbed and left.

His description matched that of the offender from the Highland Avenue offence.

Police believe the same man committed both offences, and would also like to speak to him in connection with two other attempted break-ins in Highland Avenue on January 6 and 12 when someone attempted to force open the front doors to get inside.

A police spokesperson said: “At this stage we are definitely linking the incident on Wednesday in Highland Avenue to the burglary in Servite Close as the descriptions match and the offences happened within a short time of each other.

“However, there’s the possibility that all four offences have been committed by the same offender and we are anxious to catch this person before more crimes take place.”

Anyone with information about any of the incidents, or who recognises the description, is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1352 of 12 January.
