Second day of bus strike action announced

Bus drivers have announced they are to hold a second day of strike action next week.

Unite union workers at Stagecoach South had already planned to stage a 24-hour walkout on Tuesday, July 26 in a row over pay.

They will now hold a second 24 hour strike on Thursday, July 28 across the Chichester and Bognor Regis areas.

Stagecoach has said bus services will run as normal, including the shuttle bus service to and from the Glorious Goodwood horseracing festival.

Managing director for Stagecoach South, Andrew Dyer said in reaction to the first strike announcement: “This contingency plan has worked well when applied in other regions where strike action has been taken and, where we cannot solve the issue despite the ongoing dialog with the union.

“Our priority is to ensure that commuters and other bus users are not without their normal service but we would ask them to bear with us if new drivers are not familiar with the local area.”
