Seal spied in river

Sue Duffell was walking her rescue dog when she saw the animal swimming upstream towards Hamsey.

She said: 'It looked like quite a large seal, definitely not a baby. It kept surfacing and looking around, it seemed like it was lost.'

She called British Divers Marine Life Rescue.

Rescue Co-ordinator Trevor Weeks said: 'We got close enough to check him over and he seems in good health. Our medics will be keeping an eye on him to check nothing develops.'

He added: 'It is very strange but in the last year or so we have received more calls about seals coming inland than ever before.
