Safe cycle route plan for Bognor village schools

PUPILS of schools in the Five Villages could have a safe route on which to cycle to their lessons.

County council highways engineers are considering a proposal for the cycle path to connect St Philip Howard Catholic High School in Barnham to Eastergate C of E Primary School.

Westergate Community School could also be reached through its shared boundary with the primary school.

The idea of the off-road cycleway has come from the villages’ county councillor Derek Whittington.

He said: “The council is carrying out an evaluation and costing exercise to find out more about creating the route.

“I know the council’s safer routes to school team have been talking to the new head at St Philip Howard about it and the idea has got good support from the local parish councils as well.”

The cycle route would be based on the existing footpath 321.
