Rose Green man swaps wheelchair for parachute

David Ambler will be jumping out of a plane at 20,000ft with a member of the famous Red Devils display team.

He will be taking to the sky above South Cerney airfield near Cirencester on August 4, weather permitting, for the thrill of a lifetime.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it. I’ve spoken to several people who’ve done a parachute jump and they have said it’s a great experience.

“For the first 45 seconds, we will just be plummeting towards the earth. It’s going to be a real buzz and I don’t think I will be able to take everything in. But I might need to get to the plane in my wheelchair.

“I can walk 50 yards but not any further.”

Mr Ambler, 43, of Blondell Drive, hopes to raise £1,000 for the MS Society as a thank you for the help it gave him after he was diagnosed with the nervous disability 11 years ago.

He produces the society’s Bognor Regis and Chichester branch newsletter for its 250 members.

He also works three days a week as an employment consultant for the Aldingbourne Trust finding work for people with learning difficulties.
