Rail delays from this weekend

Rail passengers wanting to travel to and from Bognor Regis face 17 days of delays from this weekend.

Engineering works which start on Saturday will continue until bank holiday Monday, May 5.

The weekdays during that period will see just three trains from Bognor travelling beyond Barnham.

These are the 05:59 to London Victoria, the 06:47 to London Bridge and the 07:07 to Victoria.

Three services from the capital will also make the return journey.

The rest of the days will see a mixture of shuttle trains and replacement bus services connecting Bognor and the west coastway line at Barnham. This weekend will see bus services replace trains.

The weekend of April 26/27 will involve buses only from Bognor station until 12.15pm on the Sunday when shuttle trains will start.

The three days of the bank holiday weekend will see Bognor without any trains at all and buses used again.

Alterations to train services, linked to the works, began on Monday. Ten services from Barnham to Bognor were retimed. Alternative bus services were also laid on to lessen the impact on passengers.

The disruption is due to a 25m improvement scheme being carried out by Network Rail around Barnham station.

Train operator Southern Railways says: 'This vital work to improve the signalling and track layout in the area near to Barnham station will facilitate easier train movements in and out of the station, which will provide benefits to timetabling as well as train performance.'
