Public to help design new town centre

Architect-led teams will take part in a design day competition in Uckfield today.

Members of the town council want a real town centre with Luxford Field retained as a green open space.

Redevelopment of the old station site should take into account re-opening of the rail link to Lewes, flooding implications and the need to link bus and rail services.

A traffic management system should alleviate contestion, provide some traffic-free environments, plus pedestrian and cycle routes.

Also on the wish list are enhancement of the conservation area and High Street streetscape and public transport and pedestrian links between new developments and the redeveloped railway station.

The design day starts at 10am with presentations from the teams at 4.20pm. Members of the public are invited to call in at the Civic Centre during the day with their own suggestions.
