£4m building work

Building work costing nearly £4m has been carried out as part of improvements to schools and children's centre facilities in East Sussex. New projects have been completed in Eastbourne, Hastings and Peasmarsh, the county council said.

The biggest development was at Peasmarsh Primary School, near Rye, where a 1.3m extension included new classrooms, toilets and admin blocks.

Two new children's centres have been built in Hastings and Eastbourne.

The Willingdon Trees centre, in the grounds of Oakwood Primary School in Eastbourne, and the Ore Valley centre, in Hastings, had a combined cost of 1.4m.

Also in Eastbourne, the sports hall and changing rooms at The Causeway School have been extended at a cost of 1.1m.

"The council is working hard to improve services and facilities right across the county," said deputy leader Tony Reid.
