Praise for Bexhill College sports volunteers

Bexhill College has won countywide acclaim for its role in the 2008 East Sussex Inclusive Young People's Sports Festival.

Nearly 200 pupils with mild to severe learning disability participated in the event which was held at the University of Brighton in Eastbourne.

Bexhill College 2nd year Sports Science students were responsible for organising sports such as football, athletics and volleyball.

They were also relied upon to identify gifted participants in multi-skilled disciplines.

Student Leon Hammond said "There were many talented athletes who took part over the two days. I was surprised at the levels of ability shown. It was a challenge but we came through it well. It was a really enjoyable experience"

Jez Wassell, Course Manager at Bexhill College said: "The whole occasion was a fantastic success. Everyone involved exhibited patience, encouragement and excellent leadership. I'm extremely proud of the team; they were an absolute credit to Bexhill College".

Certificates of participation were awarded to 34 Bexhill College students by East Sussex County Council for the role they played over the two days.

The Chairman of the County Council was moved to comment that the young volunteers were "quite magnificent."
