Decision delayed on Broadbridge Heath retirement community

A decision over whether to allow 141 retirement homes to be built at Broadbridge Heath has been delayed.

Horsham District Council’s planning committee was due to discuss the outline application, for land at Wellcross Farm, at a meeting tomorrow (May 5) but it has been withdrawn.

Matt Allen (Lib Dem, Broadbridge Heath) said: “Members have been informed it won’t be debated tomorrow and will have to come back another time because of a query from Natural England.”

Some 34 letters of objection have been received by the council, with concerns ranging from over-development and the affordability of the new homes, to the pressure the site would place on healthcare in the area and the safety of entering and leaving the A264.

As well as the new retirement/continuing care homes, the application includes plans for community facilities such as a restaurant, cafe, shop, hairdressers, spa and clinic.

The committee was only being asked to decide on the access to the site, with all other matters reserved for later consideration.
