Police apologise after poppers seized in '˜legal high' crackdown

Police said the items were seized from three town centre shops on Thursday (May 26)under a new law prohibiting the sale of ‘legal highs’, which came into effect on that day.
Officers added the poppers were not covered by the new legislation.

Hide AdCrawley Police tweeted “First day, first seizure in Crawley” with a picture the confiscated items.
However, the tweet has now been removed.
The latest tweet states: “Crawley Police can announce that the ‘poppers’ were seized in error in good faith.
“All goods will be returned to the shops with apologies.”
A spokesman for Sussex Police added “The officers realised the mistake, which was made in good faith, on the same day and the items will be returned to the shops with our apologies.”
