There was a blaze of colour at Steyning Horticultural Society's spring flower show in the Steyning Centre on Saturday.
Daffodils, flowering shrubs and wonderful spring flower arrangements exhibited by Steyning Flower Club gave visitors an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the splendour of the spring season.
Jenny O’Hagan won the R.W.Howe Cup for the best vase of nine daffodils for the second year running.
Charles Ashby won the Daffodil Society’s Bronze Medal for the best vase of flowers in the show and the K. Heryett Cup for most points in the flower section.
Lynne Broome won the National Daffodil Society’s certificate for the best bloom in show with a stunning entry of a double daffodil named Double Star.
The cooking was well supported and Mrs Des Banks, the show judge, commented on the high standard of baking. Carol Killick and Phyllis Hill won two first prizes.
There were several new children entering the children’s classes and each one was rewarded with a special prize of an Easter egg by the society.
Chairman Charles Ashby said: “Steyning Camera Club exhibited examples of their recent work, there was an excellent range of plants for sale and refreshments were served throughout the afternoon, all of which contributed to make it a very interesting and entertaining afternoon for the many visitors.”
