“We know that Christmas is a busy time for everyone,” said Grant Phillips at Chestnut Tree House. “This initiative is a great way to dispose of your Christmas tree in a hassle-free and environmentally friendly way, whilst also supporting your local community.”

Residents of Brighton and Hove will need to sign up to the recycling scheme through Just Helping, a UK charity founded in 2012 who are working with the children’s hospice to raise much needed funds this Christmas.

Once residents have signed up to the scheme, volunteers will collect their Christmas trees in a COVID secure way between Saturday, January 9 – Tuesday, January 12 2021. The trees will then be taken to a tree recycling plant in Albourne, Sussex, by Heritage Products, who are donating their services to support the children’s hospice.

“Heritage Products and its sister company Olus are proud to be supporting Chestnut Trees House’s Christmas tree recycling project to help raise money for children and their families across our community who are going through the toughest of times,” said James at Heritage Products.

Like many charities, the children’s hospice for Sussex and South East Hampshire has been hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, so they are encouraging households to sign up to the initiative and give a donation, no matter how small, in return for the collection of their Christmas tree.

“Christmas is usually a very busy time at Chestnut Tree House, with lots of themed arts and crafts, fun activities going on, visits from Santa, The Snowman, and all sorts!” added Grant.

“Your donation could pay for a personalised activity and craft pack for a child. It could help pay for a child to experience a magical hour in the multisensory room. For a nurse to visit a child in their own home to provide some respite and support for the family. Or for a sibling or parent to receive counselling and support. Your donation will make a difference to local children and families. Thank you.”

If you are in the BN3 2 – BN3 6 postcode areas, please register your tree with Brighton and Hove Rotary.

Chestnut Tree House are also seeking individuals and businesses with vans, lorries, and everything in between to give their time to the Christmas Tree recycling scheme. If you, any family members, friends or colleagues would like to help, they would love to hear from you. Please email [email protected] or call 01903 871820.

If you live in Brighton and Hove and want to support your local children’s hospice this Christmas, sign up to the Christmas tree recycling scheme at www.just-helping.org.uk/register-tree/
