Plot of village land near Storrington is sold in on-line auction

The 0.29-acre plot in Spinney Lane, West Chiltington, had a guide price of £70,000 - £80,000.

Property auctioneers Clive Emson marketed the plot as ‘having potential.’

The auction was held solely online because of the Covid-19 outbreak. The auctioneers had to cancel five March ‘ballroom’ sales across the south at the eleventh hour.

A spokesman said: “It was a week few of us will ever forget – we took the decision to take the auction online in order to comply with the spirit of the just-announced lockdown.”

He added: “We were naturally apprehensive about whether bidders would have an appetite for purchases online at such short notice, but they proved that property and land sells whatever the economic weather.”
