Hastings council's proposal to ban dogs from the beach at St Leonards is both unreasonable and unfair, when you look around the area and see the amount of litter strewn along the verges and in some of the streets plus the beaches you have to ask. Why are dogs and their owners being persecuted when the rest of the area is so badly looked after?

Quite frankly our beaches are a disgrace. There is litter everywhere you look. From leftover BBQ's to empty crisp packets and it seems raw sewage. So before we consider banning a handful of dogs and their owners shouldn't we be looking at the bigger picture?

How much damage is caused by humans dropping their litter and releasing raw sewage than by the average dog?

This proposal is ridiculous given the council's reluctance to address the issue of raw sewage that was allowed to pollute our beaches. But for teams of volunteers. Including my wife and granddaughter, cleaning up the rubbish people leave. Left to the council, our beaches wouldn't be suitable for us or even a dog to use.

In conclusion, it's easier to punish a small minority of dog owners than confront the real issues.
