The Lions Clubs Foundation of the British Isles recently made £100,000 available to local Lions Clubs supporting their community during the COVID-19 crisis

Individual Lions Clubs can apply for up to £1,000 per club and Brighton Lions Club has successfully been awarded the maximum for its work in supporting three organisations in the community.

The three that they have supported have been The Bevy, the community pub in Brighton that is supplying meals to people confined to home by age or vulnerability; the consortium of Time to Talk Befriending and City Coast Centre Church, which has been doing the same for single people in the older age group, and The Emmaus Charity in Portslade which provides homes and employment for people.

The first two organisations received £1,000 each and will shortly be receiving a further £1,000 each. Emmaus will receive £2,500 to help with the heating and lighting costs for the people they house and look after.

Lion President Pete Dilloway said: “We are pleased to have been awarded the £1,000 from the Lions National Foundation which we are adding to our own grants and putting to good use straightaway.

“This coronavirus pandemic is hurting lots of local people in many different ways and, just because we are all social distancing, this doesn’t stop us from caring – Brighton Lions are doing what we can and this cash injection will be a great help in our support of the community.

When a humanitarian crisis strikes, the Lions Clubs Foundation of the British Isles works with and are guided by their own Lions members who are ordinary people actively working at the heart of their communities”.
