Teachers at Whytemead Primary School say the parties will be held monthly and the first celebration on Friday, November 27, was a great success.

Mrs Clare Mavin, acting head teacher, said: “I visited every classroom and it was so wonderful to see the children so happy.

“Many parents commented that it was the first birthday party their child had been to since the start of lockdown. I loved seeing the children so happy.”

The school decided to hold the birthday parties because Covid-19 has hit family life hard this year and children have missed many family gatherings.

The parties will be on the last Friday of every month, held in class bubbles to ensure Covid safety.

For the first party, the children were allowed to go to school dressed in party clothes and they had a super time playing traditional party games and eating crisps and treats.
