A supermoon is a full moon where the moon is just a little bit closer to Earth than usual, so it looks bigger and brighter.

Astronomers say about 10% closer and 20% bigger in area and brightness.

This supermoon got its name because the April full moon often corresponds with the blooming of pink phlox flowers in eastern North America, though it did appear to have a pink tinge to it.
