Pensioner slapped around ear in road rage attack

AN elderly man was attacked on Tuesday afternoon in an apparent road rage incident.

The 71-year-old told a driver off for using a mobile phone and was then slapped around the ear.

The pensioner had been driving in a green Peugeot 306 along Little Common Road when he spotted the driver of a white transit van talking on his mobile phone and complained about it.

Both men then got out of their vehicles near the pedestrian crossing close to Bexhill Amateur Athletic club and met behind the Peugeot in the middle of the road.

They argued and then the elderly victim was assaulted. He did not require medical treatment.

The incident took place around 1.10pm on April 12.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to call 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 739 of 12/04. The white van had blue writing on the side.

Inspector James Scott said: “If people do see others using phones while driving they can always report it through Operation Crackdown on the Sussex Police website.”
