Path To Peace Winner

BUDDING artist Clare Colemutt s creation picked up first prize in the Littlehampton Lions Club peace poster competition, winning £25-worth of book tokens.

The 12-year-old from Rustington was delighted when she was announced as the winner and her poster has now been entered into the national competition.

Clare said her poster represented the path to peace and she made clever use of symbolism to get her idea across, including street lights, yin-yang and planet earth superimposed with a ban-the-bomb logo.

Littlehampton Lions Club president Derek Powell said he was impressed by the amount of effort which the entrants all pupils at Littlehampton Community School had put into the contest.

He said: "It s obvious that these young people have strong ideas of what peace means to them. I m so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions with all of us."

Clare s poster now advances to round two, which is the district competition, and if she is successful, she will then go through to the international round.

Lions Club International is sponsoring the contest to emphasise the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.

Derek added: "We re cheering for Clare as her poster advances in the competition and we hope her vision will eventually be shown with others around the world."
