With just days to go before the close of the offer, the pier, which reopened in April, now has more than 4,150 shareholders and has raised an additional £173,000 of working capital.

Simon Opie, chief executive officer of Hastings Pier Charity, said: “It’s just extraordinary that so many people want to be a part of the new Hastings pier – and own a part of it. “

The funds raised will help to ensure the pier is financially secure during the next few years.

Mr Opie added: “We’re delighted with the popularity of the new pier and its certainly getting good use.

“But piers are expensive to run, to maintain and to insure so we’re being extra careful financially about these first few years as the pier re-establishes its place as an integral part of the life of Hastings. The attraction is hosting a summer circus through August and has three live concerts – Dizzee Rascal, The Levellers and Happy Mondays planned for September.
