Why don’t we wear gloves to combat coronavirus

Nowhere have I seen advice given to wear protective gloves while coronavirus remains such a very real threat. Disappointingly, many people delivering to one’s home who started off wearing them have now abandoned them, and some even hand one packages and letters rather than leaving them outside the door.

It is such an easy thing to wear thin, latex-type gloves when out and about where one will encounter people. Nitrile gloves, as used in hospitals, are durable and more comfortable, being less clammy; they can be got from mail-order companies such as Lakeland and they protect the wearer and others. Remember that trolley handles, counters, handrails, cash-machines, etc, are all potential sources of infection.

When back home, these gloves can be well-cleaned with a dollop of sterilising gel or disposed of if you prefer.

Stay well.
