Wealth of talent

AS people who are fortunate to be able to visit Bexhill regularly, we sometimes wonder if those who live in the area realise how lucky they are to have such a wealth of musical and dramatic talent available to them.

This talent, both amateur and professional, is on display for a fraction of the cost that we have to pay in London. A marvellous recent example was the splendid recital Masters of Melody which we heard at St Mark’s Church in Little Common on April 2. A selection of vocal and instrumental items by Purcell, Bach, Handel and Mozart was brilliantly performed by Carmen Lasok and Robert Aldwinckle. Both these artists perform with leading national orchestras and at prestigious venues in the capital and yet we could hear them here for a mere £10.

It was also good to see St Mark’s Church opening its beautiful building with its fine acoustics to the wider community. More such events please.
