We need a re-nationalised Southern rail service

I was very pleased to see that you are backing the campaign to bring Southern Rail back into government control.

The fact that the southern franchise was renewed is incredible considering the service that we have had on this network over the years.

The recent cancellations have caused huge disruptions, and the extortionate price that we have to pay for tickets despite the poor service is really insulting.

When the DfT director Pete Wilkinson says he wants to ‘break the unions’ on the matter of driver-only trains, we can see how far the company will go to save money.

Having talked to many conductors, there is a genuine concern that trains will be less safe and a lot of untruths are being reported about supposed ‘sick days’.

In fact, the trains have always run with too few staff and relied on conductors working rest days.

I would like to give my backing for Southern Rail to be renationalised and I am sure many of my fellow commuters would agree.
