The theme of the jamboree is ‘WA - a Spirit of Unity. The Kanji Character’ (WA) embraces many meanings such as unity, harmony, cooperation, friendship and peace.

The idea is to share and experience other scouts cultures; to take part in adventures activities, peace programme, including attending 70th memorial ceremony at Hiroshima and to grow as global citizens.

The local scouts will experience many different cultures and will bring this gained knowledge and learning back to our communities. Most of them will them go onto to be young leaders, putting something back into the Scouting family.

For the young people, the challenge is to raise £3,500 each for the trip. This includes staying with a host family and attending the camp itself.

So far the fundraising activities have included a Race night in Hassocks, selling limited edition mugs, bag packing in local supermarkets. Upcoming events include Quiz nights in Hassocks Scout HQ on 19th September and in Burgess Hill Scouts HQ 17th October.

In addition to fundraising, as part of Japanese Culture, they must take small gift items to exchange with their hosts. If there any companies who are able to donate small items, (business cards), this would be very welcomed.

They do need your support, be it in donations of money, services or resources, however big or small, these would be appreciated.

The local scouts are Luke Simpson (1st Burgess Hill), Will Carter (1st Hassocks), Jamie Dillon (1st Hassocks), Adam Scott (1st Hassocks), Katy Hernandez (1st Lindfield) and Tome Owen (5th Burgess Hill).
