Pupil’s fundraiser for Tanzania trip

Farlington School’s Alice Tarplee is working hard to achieve her fundraising total of £2,600 which will enable her to take part in a charity expedition to Tanzania with 21 other Farlington students from Years 11, 12 and 13.

So far, Alice, 16, from Cranleigh, has baked cakes to sell at Farlington and sold more cakes at a fundraiser at Park Mead Primary School, Cranleigh before Christmas. She has also undertaken an exhilarating, but terrifying sky dive. Alice is just over the halfway mark in her fundraising and is currently planning a quiz night to generate the final funds.

The money she raises will allow her to visit Tanzania with the company, True Adventure, which will include a six-day sanitation project in a village.

Farlington’s Jane Williams, who took a group of students to Zambia for a similar expedition in 2013, comments: “The benefits of these trips are enormous, both to the students and to the communities that they help. The company that organises the expedition ensures that the projects are meaningful and environmentally-friendly, and that the students run the trip and have real responsibilities.

“These expeditions provide a unique personal development and an educational experience second to none. Everyone who took part in the 2013 Zambia expedition, whether they were 16 or 47, was changed by the trip. I’m sure Alice and the other students going to Tanzania will gain a great deal from the invaluable work that they will undertake.”
