Plan is published

ARUN District Council has published its draft local plan, that covers the development of the district over the next 14 years.

One of the proposals contained within this plan is for almost 500 new houses to be built in Angmering. Not only houses, but an industrial estate on a greenfield site!

This is in spite of the well-published results of a poll recently carried out by the Save Angmering Village campaign (www.saveangmeringvillage.co.uk) which showed that 99.7 per cent of the villagers who voted did not want any more large housing developments in the village.

Why does Arun feel it has the right to go against the wishes of the public it is supposed to represent and turn our village into a town? In a television interview David Cameron gave on January 8, 2012, he stated: “I care deeply about our countryside and environment. Our vision is one where we give communities more say, much more control. The fear people have in villages is the great big housing estate being plonked down from above.

“Our reforms will make it easier for communities to say ‘We are not going to have big, plonking housing estates landing next to the village, but we would like 10,20,30 extra houses and we would like them built in this way, to be built for local people’.”

I would therefore urge the villagers of Angmering to show their objections in writing to this draft plan and prevent our village being turned into a town.

Collins English Dictionary defines a village as “a small group of houses in a country area, larger than a hamlet”. We may have gone past being a small group of houses but don’t let the village be further desecrated. PROTEST.
