Not a religion!

No Mrs Leonard (Gazette, June 5) UKIP is not a new religion and by saying so you will probably offend not a few people with sincerely held religious beliefs.

It is though, an alternative political system to that of the three old-fashioned parties, who are still determined to give away our long fought for right to govern ourselves.

As for Mrs Thorpe (Gazette, May 29) suggesting that local fishermen are supported by MEPs,where has she been all these years?

Does she not know that our fishing industry has been all but obliterated by our membership of the EU, that fishermen have laid up their boats and burned them, that Grimsby has to import fish, that we are only permitted to catch a small proportion of our own fish and have to throw back the ‘wrong’ ones dead?

Far from being inward- looking, UKIP seeks to trade and negotiate with the wider world, unhampered by EU rules.

We have a history of world trade and a priceless asset in our widely spoken language.

Of course, we would still continue to trade with EU countries, they sell more goods to us than we to them, but there is life outside the EU!
