LETTER: Sea Sunday

I am writing on behalf of the Royal Naval Association, Littlehampton Branch, to thank all those who made this years’ service, to remember and pray for all seafarers and their families, such a memorable one.

It had a special meaning for our members, as the ashes of our well respected shipmate, Harry Fox, were scattered into the River Arun as was his wish, from the Harbour Master’s launch.

Our grateful thanks to the harbour master, the RNLI support vessel and onshore support staff for making this possible.

RNA standard bearers from other branches along the south coast attended to pay their respects and the parade marshall was shipmate Tony Avery, in charge of the ceremonial march.

The service was attended by the Mayor and chairman of Arun District Council which was conducted by Fr Roger Caswell, Fr Stephen Merriman and Deacon Peter Sedlmayr.

We also wish to express our thanks to the Nautical Training Corps, who provided the music, Mr Westley, smart director of Harbour Park, who provided the electrics for the speakers, and Darren Power, who set up his sound system to enable the service to be heard clearly.

After the service the RNA, invited guests and the NTC went back to the Maltravers Social Club for light refreshments, which were provided by Tony Fitzpatrick of West Sussex Hog Roast, Palatine Road, Worthing.

Our thanks to him, and his colleagues, for providing a wonderful buffet, and the staff of Maltravers Social Club for their assistance.

Many members of the public took part and enjoyed the service.
