Chairman Dr Judy McMahon welcomed everyone and paid tribute to four longstanding members who had died recently.

She said that each had been a committee member and the League would not be in the healthy position it is in now without the significant contributions made by Joy Joy, Bob Butler, Reu Brown and Geoffrey Matthews.

She highlighted the activities of the league during the last 12 months and thanks were expressed to the Trustees, committee members and the many volunteers for their support in the many and varied activities of the League.

The League had continued to respond to various applications for financial aid from many services within the hospital and its associated community services and looked forward to working closely with the CCG, the local commissioners, to increase future services at Horsham.

The Treasurer presented a very favorable report on the finances adding that the league had benefited from several large legacies during the year and fund raising activities had all generated more funds than in the previous year.

Finally the Chairman paid tribute to two committee members who were stepping down.

Elsie Lee was thanked for her work as coordinator for the shop volunteers, a role she had undertaken since 2007. Dr McMahon also paid tribute to the immense contribution David Briffett had played in the League. David had been a Trustee since 2002 and was currently the vice–chairman, had been the press and publicity officer and helped run six summer fetes. Presentations were made to both Elsie and David.

It was also announced that the Treasurer, Frances Haigh, would be stepping down over the summer.

The league was therefore in need of new Trustees particularly with financial and marketing skills and anyone interested in becoming a trustee should contact Dr McMahon on 07813686020.

Guest speaker was Janice Leeming, chief officer of Horsham Age UK.
