How ironic...

HAVE you seen the brutalist concrete wasteland being built on the eastern side of the Colonnade? Already in its early stages it is robbing us of a formerly picturesque view of the De La Warr Pavilion. These new structures, so far kept secret from us, remind me for all the world of last week's pictures of Bin Laden's bunker.

This is all part, together with infamous ‘shelter sheds’, of a devastating plan enthusiastically promoted by our council leader, Carl Maynard.

It might interest you all to know that in his election manifesto for his comfortable seat among the idyllic vilages of Brede Valley, far from Bexhill, he stated: “I have taken care to represent the views of applicants and objectors alike... I believe in protecting our villages from inappropriate developments.”

How ironic considering he has inflicted such inappropriate and ugly developments upon Bexhill.

If Mr Maynard listened to his own constituents in his cosy corner of Rother he certainly has never listened to the good people of this town.

Let us hope that more care and attention is paid to the redevelopments of the town centre and our council leader practises what he preaches in his manifesto for Bexhill as well as Brede.
