Frustration boils over in queue

I bought a new kettle at the weekend.

Nothing remarkable in that, but in the packaging was a note asking that the old kettle be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way and not put in the household rubbish and thence to landfill.

Well, to take this to the local tip with disposal facilities, since the one in Sompting has been closed, involves a drive of about three miles and a traffic queue to get into the tip of half an hour to one hour.

The waste of fuel and exhaust fumes this causes must far outweigh the fact the kettle did not go into landfill.

Why not have disposal facilities at Holmbush, Lyons Farm and other retail parks where kettles, toasters, hairdryers and other small domestic items can be left?

This would save landfill and also the need to use so much fuel going to the tip, because, if you knew these facilities were there, you would take the old appliance when you were going and not make a special journey.
