County, not Town, decides yellow lines

PAUL Farley’s letter in last week’s Observer implied that Battle Town Council is seeking to introduce additional parking restrictions through double yellow lines in order to generate extra revenue from car parking.

Just to set the record straight it is the county council, as Highway Authority, who decide where yellow lines go, primarily with safety considerations in mind.

The district council and English Heritage own and control the main pay car parks in Battle.

The town council’s role is to seek to look after the best interests of its Council Tax payers.
