Bus cuts consultation

Many cuts to our bus services are being proposed by East Sussex County Council.

In the case of service 344 – Northiam - Rye - Winchelsea Beach - Pett Level – Fairlight – Hastings and then (as the 340) to The Conquest Hospital and Tenterden - the proposal is to halve the service from one bus an hour to one every two hours and to cut the Sunday service altogether.

I cannot too strongly emphasise that anyone wishing to have a voice must respond personally either on-line or on one of the paper questionnaires. Petition forms have been circulating, but these are no substitute for full, reasoned, individual responses in the proper form. Please do not think it’s job done if you have signed a petition.

Readers can find how to respond on the County Council website, or they can telephone the Highways Contact Centre on 0345 60 80 194 and ask for a form. Paper forms are also available at Fairlight Post Office, Farm Shop, St Andrew’s Church, Coastguards Tea Rooms and Firehills Visitors’ Centre. They are also available at libraries.

Fairlight Parish Council has made its own response which can be viewed on the Fairlight Village Website.

The closing date for receipt of responses is 28 September, but County would like them as soon as possible.
