LETTER: Concerns over music festival

I am writing to air my concerns about the Big Kahuna music event to be held at Holmbush near Horsham in August.

This has been a very badly thought out event with no consideration for the safety of the expected 35,000 attendees nor the local residents.

There are no safe access points from the A264 into the venue. No additional transportation proposals, ie buses, and safe road access points to potential parking sites, as there are no local bus stops with safe access from the stopping point to the site from the A264.

The nearest station is Faygate which will not have the facilities nor the safe route of passage to the event site (a crossing point will be required on the A264).

Holmbush falls into an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is therefore protected by law from any unnatural large scale activity such as this.

Local police forces would be stretched to enforce the local law as well as protect the attendees

The organisers are already selling tickets for the event which shows their level of respect for the local community as well as the wider communities that use the A264.

This will affect the populations not only of Horsham, Faygate, Colgate, Kilnwood Vale (the latter would become a no go area due to the only exit being the roundabout on the A264 which has to give rise to further health and safety issues) but also Bewbush, Crawley, Broadfield.

All in all this has been very badly thought out and will cause a lot of stress on local residents as well as law enforcement and all other emergency services.

If the landowners are so desperate to earn extra income from such an activity then it should be set up the other side of the road which almost totally takes out most of the obvious transport link potential problems and gives easy access to Faygate station - but at what price for the poor local residents?
